With everything going on in today's world and how it will affect our future, having your finances in place is important.

No matter the income, saving money is essential. You need to how!

Before continuing, know that your finances are unique and important to me, and others might not be important to you. Your saving plan should reflect you and your lifestyle, so please keep that in mind.

Start a budget

Take the time today and sit down and start working on your budget. Without a budget, you are not going to be able to save money or manage your money. By starting a budget, you will see where your money is going and identify the problematic areas of your finances.

Starting a budget when you never did one before is the hardest thing you have to do because you have to be honest with yourself. First, you need to account for every income received and expenses for the month; this is when you realize and see where the issue with your money lies.

Never created a budget? No problem, and there is nothing to be ashamed of if you never created a personal budget. Yours truly never created a personal budget until I decide to take charge of my finances.

Write a financial plan

Everyone needs a financial plan. Why are you saving money, and how much are you going to save? Why do you want to start taking charge of your finances? Do you want to pay all your debt? To start saving now, you need to write down your financial plan.

Starting today, you will write your plans. Not sure of what goals or how to start your plan? Start simple. Create a weekly financial goal and work your way to monthly and so on. Remember, this is your financial journey—the reason you want to start saving money now and why.

Having a financial plan will also motivate you to keep going. You see, I never wrote any financial plan at all.

Only until I started my financial journey did my simple financial plan and goals turned into saving about $20K. This financial goal enabled me to quit my job and become a stay-at-home mom.

I couldn’t have accomplished that goal if it hadn’t been for great financial planning. Mind you, this took years, but it was so worth it!

Once you create this financial goal or goals, place a copy of your plan in a location that will remind you why you decided to start saving today! Please take a photo and put it on your phone as wallpaper. Place it on your wall, fridge door; anywhere you will be able to see it, and be reminded why you decided to start saving.

Stay motivated! Not just today but every day.
