What I love about this stewed bean recipe is that it is sweet and has sweet plantains in them.

If this is your first time making Puerto Rican beans know that this method is the easy way to make it because you won't mess it up.

Also, you can add whatever your heart desires when it comes to vegetables and meat.

I mean you can add ham, carrots, sausage, chicken, you name it.

One thing I advise is to make sure you taste it and add seasoning to your liking.

In this Puerto Rican beans recipe, we didn't add any salt at all, and the reason is because of the ingredients.

Rice Cooker Habichuela Guisadas Ingredients

For this rice cooker bean recipe you are going to use the following ingredients:

  •  Olive oil
  •  Sofrito
  • water
  • packet of Sazon
  • Chicken Flavor Bouillon (you can use packets too)
  • can of tomato sauce
  • stewed tomatoes
  • can of red beans or two  (we used pink beans)
  • cloves of garlic
  • bay leaf
  • Vienna Sausage
  • large onion
  • ripe plantain
  • potatoes
  • dry basil or fresh sweet basil
  • Salt & pepper

Once again, I want to make sure that you taste your recipe and add whatever your little heart desire, including hot sauce!

How to use Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker to Make Beans

Making stewed beans using a rice cooker is different from any other way because it will take about 45 minutes to be done.

This seriously allows me to set the rice cooker and work on other things around the home, and by the time it's done, it is dinner time.

You set the timer and your dinner will be done by dinner time.

How To Make Beans Using a Rice Cooker

To make stewed beans follow the steps below.

Step 1 – Set your Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker to Heat/Simmer (we pressed 15 minutes).

Step 2 – You will add olive oil, onions, garlic, and sofrito and mix it very well.

Step 3 – Add the tomato sauce, can of stewed tomatoes, the chicken bouillon, beans, and bay leaf, and mix well.

Step 4 – Once is mixed well add the rest of the ingredients and stir well.

Step 5 – In about two minutes or three close the rice cooker lid.

Step 6 – On your Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker, press the White Rice button (45 minutes).

Step 7 – Once it is done, serve!

Puerto Rican Habichuelas Guisadas (Stewed Beans Recipe) made using a rice cooker.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive oil
  • 2 Tablespoons of Sofrito
  • 1 packet of Sazon
  • 1 to 2 Tablespoons of Chicken Flavor Bouillon (you can use packets too)
  • 8 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 14 oz of stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can of beans (we used pink beans)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 can of Vienna Sausage, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 large ripe plantain, cut into thin pieces
  • 2 large potatoes, diced
  • 1 teaspoon of basil (we used fresh sweet basil)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Set your Hamilton Beach Rice & Hot Cereal Cooker to Simmer
  2. Add olive oil, onions, garlic, and sofrito and mix.
  3. After a few minutes, add the tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, chicken bouillon, beans, and bay leaf, and mix well.
  4. Let it heat up and mix well for about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  6. Close the lid and press White Rice (45 minutes)
