Puerto Rican Breakfast: Crema de Maiz  or Puerto Rican Cornmeal Cereal

Tired of the same dull warm cereal?

Today you are going to learn how to make a quick and delicious Crema de Maiz or Cornmeal Cereal that you and your family are going to love!

Now, this Puerto Rican Crema de Maiz is so good you will want to enjoy it every day with a nice cup of coffee.

Like the Avena recipe, it follows the same steps except you are using a few more ingredients but is about the same concept.

How to Make Crema de Maiz / Puerto Rican Cornmeal Cereal

Here’s how to make this Crema de Maiz / Puerto Rican Cornmeal Cereal you are going to need:

  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Cornmeal
  • Vanilla
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt

Step 1 – Add the ingredients to a medium pot over medium heat and stir.

Step 2 – Continue to stir regularly until the crema de maiz thickens, about 10-15 minutes.

Step 3 – Serve and eat warm!

  • 1 tablespoon butter, plus more for serving
  • 3 tablespoons granulated white sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon to taste
  • Nutmeg to taste (optional)

Instructions

Step 1 – Add the ingredients to a medium pot over medium heat and stir.
