So you want to work from home? This the reason why you are here and I am here to tell you that if you want to work from home, I will give you a bit of reality.
The truth is that when I decided to start this blog and chronicle my stay at home adventures, I never expected that I would be making a nice income by working from home.
Yes, I wanted to make extra money, and I did everything I could to earn extra cash while I was home. In fact, when I started this money making blog I didn't even know what I was doing and how far this little blog was going to go.
Want To Work From Home? The Truth Behind Work From Home Jobs
Back in 2014, I wrote down why I wanted to work from home. I even received offers to join MLM companies to make extra cash. Here are my top reasons why I wanted to work from home from 2014 and how I feel about it today.
Earn some extra money
My 2014 answer:
Yes, I love money! But the fact is that amount of extra money will be great for us right now. I am not looking to become rich by working from home (or maybe I will!), but having extra cash is one of the reasons to work from home.
I didn't have a job, and I had some stay at home mom bad habits that made me believe that I needed to contribute to my family financially. I seriously did. We had managed to reach our goals of me becoming a stay at home mom thanks to fixing our finances, and I felt like I could achieve this goal of making money while being a stay at home mom.
Who doesn't want to stay home and make money? The thought was so appealing to me that I went full force into researching this topic. For the longest time, I was able to earn some extra cash, but I wasn't quite sure how I could make more.
Working from home will save me money
My 2014 reasons:
When I add how much money I am saving just by staying home, I have to think hard about going back to work. This was an eye opener for me to be honest. Since staying home, I have saved hundreds of dollars in gas, clothing, food, and so much more.
I get to work the hours that works for me and my family. As I mentioned before, I want to make sure that my family is top priority. When working online, I worked the hours that are best for me and my family. What works for me are early mornings for others are late in the evening.
Aw yes! Those hours sure used to work for me until my kids started to get older, going to school and the workload started picking up. Oh and last year our youngest boy was born. The truth is that if I want to pay bills I have to work, and I had to make it a priority as well. Yes, my family is a priority but since then we decided that this blog was good enough to make it work.
I have to make sure that I do give it time to make my small business grow plain and months. About saving money, you bet! Staying at home continues to save us money require and now that we are a bigger family the expenses of daycare alone will be insane.
I am more accessible to my kids and family
My 2014 respond:
When I worked far from home there were times when it was hard for my family to reach me. If my child was sick I had to call a family member to pick her because I couldn't get there on time. Having me home and having the school and/or daycare near makes me more accessible to my children.
I love having control of my own projects. If I work short hours and don't put the effort I won't get paid. I get to answer to me. If I don't make the money then is my fault too. Now more boss or bosses telling me 10 different directions for one project. The list can go on for this one. ?
Being accessible to my family continues to be a great benefit, but I consider my readers and the people I work for my bosses, to be honest. When my child is sick, I am able to be there and fast. This is such a great benefit and that proved to be the case when my son was ill and ended up in the Children Hospital.
I was able just to go and be there and not worry about my boss being mad at me or letting other fellow workers down and with the burden of my work. Being accessible to my kids and family was top reason I wanted to work from home and so far is my favorite benefit and perk of working from home.
I get satisfaction from what I am doing.
Doing something that I love and loving my job, words can't describe it. Starting this money making blog and making extra money gives me satisfaction. I am happy, I am content. A happy mommy, a happy family! ?
The joy of working from home continues to be genuine, and honestly, I am so happy with my blog. I get to learn and help others with my blog. I didn't want to do something I didn't love. Being able to look forward to working on this blog and making money by helping others is satisfying.
My old 2014 self had a solid idea of why she wanted to work from home, even though I seriously wasn't making much money. I look back and admire my determination to start a blog that looked terrible with bad grammar and all, but my passion was there.
I never expected that working part time, setting fear and insecurity to the side was going to make over $16K in income last year. Mind you, in May of 2017 and April I had to deal with major family issues I was able to make this amount of money.
I made an extra $16K and $11K of them was in seven month alone!
Now I'm not saying that you need a blog to make money from home because you don't. There are tons of ways to make money and below I'm going to talk about it and give you helpful resources about how you can start, but before you do let's talk about the reality of working from home many of you don't realize it exists.
I never saw myself as a work-from-home mom until last year and honestly, like any other job, working from home is a job. You want to work from home; I will gladly give you a reality.Working from home is not as easy as people imagine it to be!
I wanted to work from home, but I also knew that it would require time and to be at home with my kids was going to be a challenge. Work from home jobs are out there, the problem is that many think that they are not like a regular job.
You have to work!
When people ask me how I make money from home and the minute I start to sound like I have a real job, I never hear about the topic again. People assume that all I do is sit at home and the money just falls from the sky.
The good news is that if you want to work from home there are many different ways you can earn money from home. TONS! And I'm not talking about surveys and yard sales, though those are an excellent way to earn cash, but not enough and they can require a lot of times just to earn a couple of bucks.
Work from home jobs require times
Depending on the type of work you get, you are going to show up to work at a particular time. There is no make up my time when my kids are in bed. Some work at home job requires you to show up on a given time.
Think about it this way, would you show up to your job any time you wanted? The answer is no, and you can't think all work from home jobs are like that.
If you have children, you are going to have to find a way to manage your time and get some work done without distraction. If this is an issue then maybe the kind of work from home job you want might be something different, like babysitting or self-employment, but even still you are going to need to find the time to work.
You are going to need to balance, and you might even need to find a babysitter. Again, it all depends on the type of job you want when you stay at home.
Plan to work hard
You want to make money you are going to have to work hard. This includes if you want to start working for an MLM (Multi-Level Management) company like LLR, Avon, etc.
It might seem easy to earn extra cash from home working with MLM companies but is not that simple. I wrote about becoming debt free with MLM businesses, and the reason many people fail to succeed with these companies is that they are not ready to put the work it requires.
Mind you, to recruit many will promote the company as an easy and fast way to make money, but the truth is that the top sellers have busted their behind to make it there.
Do you still want to work from home?
If you still do, and I hope you do because there are so many ways you can stay at home and make money. I make my money blogging, my friend works for an insurance company and gets to stay home with her kid.
Of course, she has to put in her time, but as you can see, there are many ways you can stay home and make money. I just wanted to ensure you do know that is work and not as easy as people might think.
Now I will give you links to sites and books to help you find information regarding working from home and options. If you are interested in starting a money making blog, I will add those links as well.
If you want to work from home and have questions I will do my best to find information and help you. Please know that it can be done and make sure you are ready to work hard at first. There is no easy or fast way to do it. Research and find what you love doing.
Books are a great way to understanding and to get you mentally ready for your journey!
