When you pour hot milk over a hot cocoa bomb or drop it in warm milk and it pops open to reveal marshmallows or candy along with hot cocoa mix, it’s fun, especially for little ones.

Do hot cocoa bombs need milk or water?

Hot cocoa is ALWAYS better made with milk. You can use water but you’re really missing out on the decadent flavor and creaminess that milk adds.

If you like hot cocoa made with water, use water, but if you normally make your hot cocoa mix with milk, use milk.

How do you use hot cocoa bombs?

Hot cocoa bombs can be placed in a mug and hot milk poured over the top or you can heat your milk in the mug and then carefully place the hot cocoa bomb into the warmed milk.

Stir until everything is melted and well blended. If you like, you can use a small whisk to ensure everything mixes well.

To make this Whoppers Hot Cocoa Bomb recipe you are going to need the following ingredients:

  • Chocolate Candy Melts
  • Hot Chocolate Mix
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Whoppers Malted Milk Ball Candies

How to make Whoppers Hot Cocoa Bombs

Now that you have gathered your ingredients it is time to make Whoppers Hot Cocoa Bombs. All you have to do is follow the steps below:

Roughly crush 6-8 of your malted milk ball candies. Set aside. You can do this in a food processor or by placing the candies in a zip-top bag and hitting them with a rolling pin.

Place chocolate candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and melts in the microwave per the directions on the package. Remember that all microwaves are different. Heating for too long can cause the melts to scorch.

Place one tablespoon melted candy melt into one half of a bomb mold and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat with 12 bomb mold halves.

Place the chocolate-filled bomb molds into the freezer for 5 minutes. You want to make sure the chocolate is set.

Remove molds from the freezer and gently tap the sides of the mold, pressing on one side of the chocolate to make the chocolate slide out of the mold. Be careful not to break the pieces.

Fill 6 of the molds with one tablespoon hot chocolate mix, some of the crushed malted milk balls, and 6-8 mini marshmallows.

Heat a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch.

Press one of the empty chocolate bomb halves open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim of the chocolate cup.

Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of one of the filled cups. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb.

Using a piping bag or a fork, drizzle the remaining chocolate candy melts on top of the assembled hot cocoa bombs then immediately follow by placing the crushed malted milk balls on top.

Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.

To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 2 cups of hot milk over the top. Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy!
