Please read my Disclosure and Privacy policies hereIf you’ve never used one of my printables before, this is a really easy one to start with. There isn’t a right or wrong way to use it, and you don’t need a complicated planning system to make it useful. I created this October Goal Tracker because sometimes having one simple page in front of you is enough to help you stay focused on the things you’re trying to work on.
October can get busy pretty quickly. There are fall activities, Halloween, school stuff, grocery shopping, things around the house we’ve been putting off, and before the month is even over we’re already starting to think about the holidays. Instead of creating another big planner, I wanted something simple that you could print out, keep where you can see it, and actually use throughout the month.
The October Goal Tracker includes all 31 days right inside the word OCTOBER, along with space for your goals, ways to save, notes, and your highlights for the month. At the bottom, you’ll also see the reminder, “Grateful for progress, not perfection.” That pretty much sums up how I want this printable to be used.
This isn’t about having a perfect October. It’s about noticing the little things you’re doing and giving yourself a place to keep track of them.

What Is an October Goal Tracker?
Think of this printable as a simple monthly check-in. You can use the numbered spaces to track something every day, or you can mark them whenever you make progress toward a goal you’re working on.
You might decide to color in a number every time you have a no-spend day. Maybe you want to mark the days you cook at home, check your budget, work on a project, walk, declutter, or use something from your freezer instead of buying more groceries.
It doesn’t even have to be money-related.
A lot of what we talk about here involves saving money, groceries, budgeting, and making the most of what we have, but our home adventures are about more than that. Maybe you’re trying to get one room organized. Maybe you want to get back into a routine or work on something you’ve been putting off for months.
Use the tracker for whatever would actually help you this October.
How to Use the October Goal Tracker
Once you print your tracker, I would start with the Goals section. You don’t have to fill out every part of the page before you start using it. Take a minute and think about what you would really like to work on this month.
Try not to start with what you think you should be doing because everyone else seems to be doing it. Think about your own home, your own schedule, your own money, and what would make October feel a little better for you.
Maybe you want to stay closer to your grocery budget this month. You might want to save a little extra money, cook at home more often, finally finish a project around the house, or get a head start on something before the holidays arrive.
Choose a few things that matter to you and write them down.
After that, decide what you want the numbered October section to represent. Each number is one day of the month, so you can color it in, circle it, put a checkmark through it, use a highlighter, or even add a sticker whenever you complete the thing you decided to track.
You don’t have to make it fancy unless you want to. A pen and a checkmark work just fine.

Ideas for What You Can Track
If you’re looking at all 31 days and wondering what you should actually track, start with something you’re already trying to improve. You don’t need to invent a new habit just because you downloaded a printable.
For money and budgeting, you could track no-spend days, days you checked your budget, days you avoided an impulse purchase, or days you put something into savings. You could also mark the days you stayed within your grocery plan or used food you already had at home.
For your home, you might track days you decluttered for 15 minutes, completed a cleaning task, worked on a room you’ve been putting off, or handled one small thing on your to-do list.
You could also use it for personal goals such as walking, exercising, drinking more water, reading, working on your business, or getting to bed earlier.
Here are a few ideas if you need somewhere to start:
- No-spend days
- Checking your budget
- Cooking dinner at home
- Using food from your pantry or freezer
- Staying within your grocery plan
- Packing lunch instead of buying it
- Putting money into savings
- Avoiding an impulse purchase
- Decluttering for a few minutes
- Completing one household task
- Walking or exercising
- Drinking more water
- Reading
- Working on a business or personal goal
- Finishing something you’ve been putting off
You also don’t need to track five things at the same time. One thing is enough, especially if this is your first time using a tracker like this.
Keep Your October Goals Realistic
I didn’t make the Goals section huge because I don’t think we need another place to write down 20 things and then feel terrible when normal life gets in the way.
It is so easy to start a new month thinking this is going to be the month when we finally get everything together. Then appointments happen, kids need something, the car needs something, plans change, or we’re simply tired.
Choose goals that make sense for where you are right now.
If saving money is one of your goals, you could make it more specific by writing down something like “put $50 into savings” or “use what we already have in the freezer before buying more.”
If you want to get organized, instead of writing “organize the whole house,” maybe your October goal is simply to get the pantry organized.
Smaller goals don’t mean you’re not trying hard enough. Sometimes they’re the goals we actually finish.

How to Use the Ways to Save Section
I added the Ways to Save section because October can bring a lot of extra spending without us really noticing it at first. Halloween can mean costumes, candy, decorations, school activities, pumpkin patches, fall events, and then holiday spending starts creeping in too.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend money on things you enjoy. We don’t do that kind of judgment here. If going to a pumpkin patch with your family is something you love and you planned for it, enjoy the pumpkin patch.
The Ways to Save box is simply a place to think about the areas where you do want to save.
Maybe you decide to use the fall decorations you already own instead of buying more. You could plan a leftover night every week, check your pantry before grocery shopping, set a Halloween spending amount before you head to the store, or start watching holiday prices now so you don’t feel rushed later.
These don’t need to be huge changes. Somtimes the small things are the ones that are easiest to keep doing.
If groceries are one of the areas you’re working on, you can also use my free grocery spending tracker along with your October tracker. I like seeing what I actually spent instead of reaching the end of the month and trying to remember where all the grocery money went.
What Goes in the Notes Section?
Anything you want, and I mean that.
I like having some open space on a printable because not everything needs its own category or set of instructions. You could use the Notes section for an unexpected expense, a reminder, something you need to buy later, an idea that helped you save money, or something you want to remember when you plan next month.
You can also use that space if one of your goals changes.
Maybe you started October thinking you were going to do one thing and two weeks later realized it just wasn’t working for you. Change it. Cross it out. Write something different.
The printable is supposed to work for you, not the other way around.
Don’t Forget About Your October Highlights
The Highlights section may actually be my favorite part because most of us don’t have any trouble remembering the things that went wrong.
If we go over the grocery budget, we remember it. If we order takeout when we planned to cook, we remember that too. If we forget about our tracker for four days or don’t save as much as we hoped, those are usually the things that stay in our heads.
What we don’t always remember are the little wins.
Maybe you cooked at home more often than you did last month. Maybe you had five no-spend days. Maybe you used something from the freezer before it went bad or put $20 into savings when you didn’t think you would be able to save anything.
Maybe you simply started paying attention to your spending again.
Write those things in your Highlights box.
Your progress doesn’t have to look like mine or anyone else’s. Your grocery budget doesn’t have to be the same as another family’s, and how much you can save isn’t something we’re going to judge here. We all have different households, different bills, different families, and different things going on behind the scenes.
The goal is to figure out what works in your own home and keep moving forward.
What If You Miss a Few Days?
If you forget to use your tracker for a few days, just start using it again when you remember. You don’t have to throw it away, print another one, or wait until next month because there are a few blank days in OCTOBER.
Life is going to happen. There might be a busy week, somebody gets sick, your schedule changes, or you just completely forget the printable exists for a few days.
That doesn’t erase the days you did use it.
If you get to the end of October and every single day is filled in, great. If you get to the end of the month with half of it filled in but you learned something about your spending, your habits, or what actually works for you, that was useful too.
This is exactly why the reminder at the bottom says progress, not perfection.

That’s what this tracker is really for.
